Losers in the Bravo! Theatre

Theatre in Braník is currently run by United Arts & Co. z.s., which is also the owner of the Losers Cirque Company. The company did not have its home stage until 2020. The company won a tender for a new tenant of the theatre and the handover from the representatives of the city council took place on 13 September 2020.

The re-opening ceremony was open to the general public and was attended by about 400 people. On the programme was a public debate about the direction of the theatre with representatives of Prague 4, the founders of Losers and A69 – Architects. The theatre’s first proper season started in September 2021.

Our vision

Divadlo BRAVO!, bývalé BRAnické diVadlO, nese podtitul „Divadlo nového cirkusu a pantomimy”.

The BRAVO! Theatre, the former ‘Branické divadlo’, is known as the “Theatre of the New Circus and Pantomime”. As new tenants, we would like to continue the legendary era of the theatre associated with the legendary theatre group Prague Five (‘Pražská pětka’). Our ambition is to create the widest and most interesting programme, from which everyone can choose. And to become a popular culture center and meeting place again, as it was in the past.

We have invited talented colleagues from related genres, such as movement theatre and contemporary dance, to join the regular performances from the Losers Cirque Company repertoire.
But we do not forget about families and their youngest members. For them we organize weekend performances.

In our programme you will also find concerts, musical improvisations or a new site-specific format – a tour of the theatre called BRANÍK’S LEGENDS. We played a test version of this as part of the Night of Theatres in November 2022. Due to its great success, a full performance was created.

Tradition with a ‘A69’ Twist

The theatre has undergone a number of building renovations during its long history. The last extensive reconstruction was done in 2013 due to excessive humidity in the building. We took over the theatre in a very poor condition, without even the most basic equipment. During the long period without cultural activity, we painted the theatre with our own hands, laid new carpets and repaired what we could to make it operational again. Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on HitHit we raised 1 million crowns, which we used to buy desperately needed equipment. Thank very much to everyone who contributed. We appreciate it!

Currently the section of the theatre with the best view of the stage is equipped with comfortable cabaret seating with a table between two chairs. But we would have liked much more.

The final transformation of the theatre into the modern BRAVO! Theatre will take place under the supervision of the renowned firm A69 – Architects. We have already drafted designs that reflect the needs of the new circus group and at the same time are in harmony with the theatre tradition. It is impossible not to notice that the theatre lacks a foyer – and we would like to change that. The most important point of the whole renovation will be the removal of the slightly tilted floor in the auditorium and the construction of an elevated seating. That will give the audience in all rows a great view of the tricks at heights and lower at the ground. The seating capacity will be reduced to about 260 seats, but the comfort of the spectator will increase significantly.
